Biomagnification is when an increase in a pollutant or toxin goes from one link in a food chain or web to another. DDT, which was invented in the late 1920's, and banned in 1977, still is present in plants and animals alive today because of the long half life it has, which is 15 years. A half life is how long it takes for half of the chemical to be broken down. DDT was invented to get rid of large populations of insects throughout the country. It was considered some sort of miracle chemical that would rid us of the annoyance that we call bugs. DDT was not only applied in homes by homeowners, but was sprayed in fields and farms across the country, causing this dangerous chemical to get into the environment. DDT was also put into the environment by mosquitoes and other small insects that were individually given the chemical by homeowners. Since mosquitoes and other bugs had it and the half is 15 years, when something would eat the mosquitoes, they would have DDT in their system. DDT was discovered to be carcinogenic by the state of California, which means it can cause cancer. Cleaning up the DDT mess is a difficult task, since it can not be taken out if the environment until it has lived its full life and is not significant enough to harm anyone. DDT was banned in 1977, so new DDT is not available, but the chemical that was sprayed in the 1970's and earlier is still active in organisms that have ever been in contact with the chemical in any form.

Partial- I understand that cleaning up the mess is hard but there could be possible solutions/ your work sited is incorrectly sited easybib.com/did not describe how is biomagnifies like an example of the food chain or food web for a certain environment and negative effects of the animals and environment/ question: what made people realize DDT was causing so much damage? who realized it was?
